The First Baptist Church of Riverhead Honors MLK Jr. Meritorious Award Recipients at the 28th Annual MLK Memorial Breakfast

On Monday, January 21, 2013 the First Baptist Church of Riverhead will joyfully celebrate the 28th Anniversary of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast. This 28th Annual Celebration will be held at 8:00 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Wind Watch Hotel in Hauppauge, New York. As always, our 2013 MLK Jr., Meritorious Award Recipients are individuals who embody Dr. King's ideals and work tirelessly to make his dream a reality for all humanity. They are:

Ms. Belinda Alvarez-Groneman, President of the Board of Directors of PRONTO of Long Island, Inc.

Professor James W. Banks, LCSW-R, CCH, Suffolk County Community College Coordinator of Multicultural Affairs

Ms. Debrah Garcia, Executive Director & CEO of Long Island Head Start

Bishop Harrison Hale, Pastor of the Cornerstone Church of God In Christ and Bishop of the Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Panama GOGIC Jurisdictions

Our renowned keynote speaker this year, The Rev. Dr. Marvin A. McMickle, is an accomplished pastor, a sought after speaker, a credentialed theologian, educator, and a prolific author. Dr. McMickle is the President of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, NY.

Before arriving in Rochester, Dr. McMickle was a member of the Board of Trustees of Cleveland State University in Cleveland, OH. Dr. McMickle was also the Professor of Homiletics at Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio from 1996 to 2011. Upon retiring from Ashland Theological Seminary, the faculty named him Professor Emeritus.

He is the author of 14 books as well as dozens of articles that regularly appear in professional journals and magazines. His writings also appear in Feasting on the Word and Preaching God's Transforming Justice; two recent preaching commentaries. He is a member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Board of Preachers at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA.

In the winter semester of 2009 he served as a Visiting Professor of Preaching at Yale University Divinity School. During his early career, Dr. McMickle served on the adjunct faculty at Fordham University, Princeton Theological Seminary, New Brunswick Theological Seminary and New York Theological Seminary. He also taught biblical studies inside of Ossining Correctional Center (Sing Sing).

In his four decades as an ordained clergyman, Dr. McMickle has served on the pastoral staff of the Abyssinian Baptist Church of New York City, as the pastor of St. Paul Baptist Church of Montclair, New Jersey, and as the Senior Pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio from 1987-2011.
