First Baptist actively seeks to empower people both as individuals and as a collective community to achieve excellence in realizing their full potential to effect positive change in our world. As such, First Baptist has established several programs and agencies which provide direct services, as well as organizing efforts intended to train and develop the poor and disadvantaged.

Our church, as one of several founding organizers, established LION - Long Island Organizing Network, a 501(c)(3) federation of faith-based and community organizations whose collective voices bring about positive change and social justice on Long Island.

For several decades, the First Baptist Church of Riverhead has been an active force in initiating positive programs for the youth and families of our community including, after-school mentoring & reading programs, computer literacy programs, and summer enrichment programs targeting at-risk community youth. Additionally, First Baptist has subsidized and supervised youth travel abroad to conferences in both Scotland and in Zimbabwe.

First Baptist has been active in the missions field, both in supporting local and domestic projects, as well as projects abroad. Most recently, First Baptist members have been raising funds to purchase a brick manufacturing machine for a multivillage building project in Ghana.
